हिंदी में भेजें या Hinglish में? (which one to pick)
Both are on this page because they aren't interchangeable, and picking the wrong one is the most common way a warm message lands slightly oddly.
Devanagari — for parents' generation, for family WhatsApp groups, and for anyone you'd address as आप. It reads as respectful and considered, and on a festival that is largely about respect, that's usually right.
Hinglish — for a sibling your own age you text every week. If the two of you have never once typed a full sentence in Devanagari to each other, doing it today reads as a forward rather than a message.
The tell is simple: look at your existing chat with them and write in whatever is already there. A message that matches how you normally talk is the one they'll believe you wrote.
भेजने से पहले एक चीज़ बदलिए (change one thing first)
Every line here is a starting point. The difference between a message that gets a heart and one that gets a phone call is a single specific detail — and adding one takes about ten seconds.
- Use the name you actually use — भैया, दीदी, चोटू, the nickname nobody outside the family understands. A generic भाई is fine; their actual name is better.
- Add one thing from this year — the exam, the move, the new job, the year they had. That's the part no forward can contain.
- Don't stack three of these together. One line reads as written; three read as pasted.
- Check the emoji. One is warmth, four is a forward — and forwards are precisely what everyone is drowning in on the day.
