Teddy Day 2027 falls on Wednesday 10 February, the fourth day of Valentine's Week.

It is the most gift-shaped day of the eight — the others are mostly words, and this one wants an object. Which makes it the hardest day of the week if the person is in another city, because a soft toy is exactly the sort of thing that does not travel well or quickly.

What Teddy Day is

A soft toy, given to somebody as a stand-in for you: something to keep, something to hold onto, something that stays in the room after the week is over. That is the whole idea and it is not complicated.

It sits on the Wednesday deliberately, between Chocolate Day and Promise Day — past the light opening days of the week and before the serious ones. The gift is meant to be affectionate rather than significant.

Which is also why it is the day people most often skip. A teddy is a shop purchase, a shop purchase needs a shop, and by Wednesday of that week the reasonable ones are gone.

The problem with Teddy Day at a distance

  • It has to arrive on the day, and a courier does not guarantee a Wednesday
  • It is bulky, so shipping it internationally costs more than the teddy
  • Online florists mark it up hard in that week specifically, because they know exactly what the date is
  • Somebody has to be home to take delivery, which is not a surprise, it is an appointment
  • A photo of a teddy you will give them later is not a gift, it is an IOU

A teddy at the bottom of five boxes

There is one thing on this site built exactly for this day, and it happened by accident rather than design — the teddy was there long before anybody thought about Teddy Day.

Nested surprise boxes gives them five wrapped boxes, one inside the next. They tear through each one and the box underneath gets smaller. At the bottom there is a teddy, and under the teddy there is your letter.

The unwrapping is the part that matters. A picture of a bear is nothing; five boxes that have to be opened one at a time is a minute and a half of anticipation, which is the thing an actual present has and a photograph does not. See it play.

What to write under it

The letter at the bottom is doing the real work, and four hundred characters is the limit — roughly five sentences, which is plenty.

The lines that land are specific. "Something to keep you company until March" is better than "thinking of you always", because the first one could only have been written by you, to them, this year.

If you are writing for a girlfriend or boyfriend and want somewhere to start, Rose Day wishes has forty lines that adapt easily — change the flower to the bear and most of them still work.

If you can hand one over in person

Then do that, obviously. A real teddy beats a link every time when the two of you are in the same place.

Two things worth knowing if you are buying one. Small beats enormous — a giant bear is a storage problem wearing a bow, and it ends up on top of a cupboard by March. And put a note inside the tag rather than in a card beside it, because the card gets thrown away and the tag stays with the bear.

The digital one is for the years when you are not in the same city, which for a lot of people is most of them.

Making one for Wednesday the 10th

A name and a letter is the entire input — no photographs, nothing to upload, so it is genuinely about five minutes.

Free, opens in a browser with no app and no account on either end, and the link lives for 10 days: make one for Teddy Day.

If you are still working out which days of the week to bother with, the Valentine's Week 2027 list has all eight with their dates and what each is for.
