Christmas 2026 is Friday, 25 December. Below are wishes to copy and send: short ones for a message or a status, ones for family and for friends, funny ones, religious blessings, wishes for your team, Christmas and New Year together, and a few for anyone whose birthday falls at Christmas.

Treat each one as a start. Add their name and one thing that's true about this year — the new job, the move, the baby's first Christmas — and it stops being a forward and becomes a message from you.

Short Christmas wishes

  • Merry Christmas! Wishing you a day full of warmth, good food and the people you love.

  • Merry Christmas — may your home be loud and your heart be full.

  • Wishing you peace, joy and a very good dinner. Merry Christmas!

  • Merry Christmas to you and everyone under your roof.

  • May the light of Christmas stay with you all year. Merry Christmas.

  • Warm wishes for a merry Christmas and a gentle end to the year.

  • Merry Christmas! I hope Santa read your list properly this year.

  • Joy to you and yours this Christmas.

  • Merry Christmas — sending you a hug bigger than any present.

  • Wishing you a Christmas as bright as the lights on the tree.

Merry Christmas wishes for family

  • Merry Christmas to my favourite people. Every good thing about this time of year started at our table.

  • Mum and Dad: thank you for every Christmas you made magic without letting us see how much work it was. Merry Christmas.

  • Merry Christmas to my brother and sister — the only people who still remember the year the tree fell over.

  • Wishing our whole family a Christmas of laughter, second helpings and no arguments about the remote.

  • Merry Christmas, Grandma and Grandpa. Your house will always be what Christmas smells like.

  • Wherever we each are this year, in my head we're one family at one table. Merry Christmas.

  • To my love: Merry Christmas. You're the present I'd unwrap again every year.

  • Merry Christmas to the little ones — may your stockings be full and your bedtime late.

Christmas wishes for friends

  • Merry Christmas to the friend who's basically family, minus the awkward questions at dinner.

  • Merry Christmas! Thank you for being the best part of my year (don't tell my family).

  • To my favourite person to do absolutely nothing with: Merry Christmas.

  • Merry Christmas, friend. Here's to more late-night talks and fewer early mornings next year.

  • Merry Christmas to my oldest friend. Some things just get better with time — like us.

  • Merry Christmas to the one who always knows when I need a call. Consider this mine.

  • I hope your Christmas is as fun as our worst ideas. Merry Christmas!

  • Merry Christmas! Nothing in a box could match this friendship, so I didn't try. (The box is coming anyway.)

Funny Christmas wishes

  • Merry Christmas! Santa asked if you'd been good this year. I said "define good".

  • My Christmas wish for you: a stretchy waistband and nobody asking about your plans for next year.

  • Merry Christmas! May your Wi-Fi be strong and your relatives' questions be short.

  • Merry Christmas from someone who has already eaten your share of the chocolates.

  • I'm on Santa's nice list. Allegedly. Merry Christmas!

  • Merry Christmas! Remember, nothing eaten on the 25th counts. It's the law.

  • Wishing you a Christmas with more presents than paper cuts.

  • Merry Christmas to someone who will definitely be asleep on the sofa by four.

Religious Christmas wishes and blessings

  • May the peace of Christ fill your home and your heart this Christmas.

  • Wishing you a blessed Christmas as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour.

  • "For unto us a child is born." May His love be with you this Christmas and always.

  • May the joy of the angels, the wonder of the shepherds and the peace of the Christ child be yours this Christmas.

  • Have a holy and blessed Christmas. May God's love light every day of the new year.

  • "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace." Merry Christmas!

  • Praying this Christmas brings you hope, healing and the gift of His presence.

  • Merry Christmas — may Emmanuel, God with us, be with you and your family this season.

Christmas wishes for your team

From a manager to the people who carried the year: thanks first, the season second. For a colleague, a boss or a client, the messages in what to write in a Christmas card are written for exactly that.

  • Merry Christmas, team. Thank you for everything you gave this year — please take a real break.

  • Wishing every one of you a merry Christmas. This year worked because you did.

  • Merry Christmas to the best team I could have asked for. Switch off, eat well, come back rested.

  • Thank you for your hard work and patience this year. Merry Christmas to you and your families.

  • Merry Christmas! The office will be quiet without you — enjoy every minute of it.

  • Season's greetings to our whole team, with thanks for a year we're proud of.

Christmas and New Year wishes together

  • Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! May 2027 be kind to you.

  • Wishing you a merry Christmas and a new year full of good surprises.

  • Merry Christmas and happy New Year — here's to closing 2026 well and opening 2027 even better.

  • Season's greetings and best wishes for a healthy, happy 2027.

  • Merry Christmas! May the new year bring you everything this one forgot to.

  • Wishing you warm days at Christmas and a fresh start in the new year.

  • Merry Christmas and a happy 2027 — same friends, new adventures.

  • From our home to yours: a merry Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous new year.

Christmas birthday wishes

Born on (or near) the 25th? Their birthday always gets folded into Christmas — so wish them both, and make the birthday the bigger half. If it's a big one this year, the Birthday Room puts their name in neon and their age in gold balloons, all of it theirs and none of it tinsel.

  • Happy birthday and merry Christmas! You deserve your own cake, not a slice of the Christmas one.

  • Happy birthday to the best present ever delivered at Christmas.

  • Merry Christmas to everyone — and happy birthday to the one person who matters most today.

  • Your birthday will never be "just part of Christmas" to me. Happy birthday, and merry Christmas.

  • Happy Christmas birthday! Two celebrations, one you — make them both count.

When you can't be together this Christmas

  • I can't be home this Christmas, but every bit of me is at the table with you. Merry Christmas.

  • Merry Christmas from far away. Save me a seat, a slice of cake and a story.

  • Different cities, same Christmas. I'm thinking of you all day.

Send the wish inside a Christmas Eve

A wish in a chat is read in two seconds. If you'd like yours to be opened instead, Christmas Eve 360° is a whole cottage on Christmas Eve that they step into from a link and look round on their phone.

It starts as a snow globe they shake. Inside, the fire's out and the tree is dark — the snowman outside has lost his nose, so they send him the carrot off Santa's cookie plate. Then Santa gets stuck in the chimney, pops out after three tugs on his scarf, and his sack splits: four presents fly round the room, each with one of your photos inside. They put the star on the tree and the whole room lights up. Your wish is the letter Santa brings — "this one's not from me" — and the snowman writes MERRY CHRISTMAS and their name in the snow on the window.

It's premium: one credit, and a Google sign-in on your side only; they just open the link. See it, or make one — about ten minutes with the photos ready. If you'd rather keep it free, nested surprise boxes put your wish at the bottom of five wrapped boxes they open one by one.

How to make any wish sound like you

  • Use their name in the first line. "Merry Christmas, Priya" is a message; "Merry Christmas" alone is a broadcast
  • Add one true thing from this year — the trip, the exam, the first Christmas in the new flat. One clause is enough
  • Say it the way you talk. If you never say "blessed" out loud, a text is a strange place to start
  • Send it on Christmas Eve or early on the day. By the afternoon of the 25th, phones are face down on the table — and that's how it should be

Questions people ask

When is Christmas 2026?

Friday, 25 December 2026. Christmas Eve is Thursday the 24th, and New Year's Day 2027 is the Friday after.

Is it "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Christmas"?

Both are right. "Merry Christmas" is the one most of the world says; "Happy Christmas" is the older form, still common in Britain and Ireland. Pick whichever you'd say out loud.

What's a good short Christmas wish?

One line, their name, and something warm: "Merry Christmas, Anna — may your home be loud and your heart be full." Short wishes work best when they sound like you rather than like a card.
