Happy Bhai Dooj Wishes 2026 for Your Brother and Sister
Happy Bhai Dooj wishes to copy for your brother or sister — plus the 2026 date, Wednesday 11 November, and what to send if you can't be there for the tilak.
On this page
Bhai Dooj 2026 falls on Wednesday, 11 November 2026 — three days after the main Diwali night, and the festival's last day. A sister puts a tilak on her brother's forehead, does a small aarti and feeds him something sweet; he gives a gift and a promise back.
It is Raksha Bandhan's quieter twin, and the second time in the year siblings are the whole point of the day. Below: wishes for your brother, wishes for your sister, short ones for WhatsApp, a few to tease them with, and lines for the sibling who isn't in the same city this year. Copy any of them.
The date, and the time of the tilak
Bhai Dooj 2026: Wednesday, 11 November 2026. It falls on the second lunar day of the bright half of Kartik, which this year comes three days after Diwali on Sunday, 8 November 2026 — so the whole festival runs from Dhanteras on the 6th to Bhai Dooj on the 11th.
The tilak is done in the afternoon, while that lunar day lasts. The exact window changes by city, so your local panchang is the one to trust for the minutes. And because the date comes from the moon rather than the calendar, a few local panchangs can place the day differently — if your family's does, go by theirs.
For the whole run of days and when to send your Diwali wishes, see Diwali 2026: the date and how the five days run.
For your brother
Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai. The tilak is a formality — I'd pray for you without it, I just like the excuse.
Happy Bhai Dooj to the one person who has known me since before I had opinions, and still asks for them.
Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai. You still owe me for every time I took the blame. Today you can pay in sweets.
A tilak for your forehead, a prayer for your year, and an expectation for your gift. Happy Bhai Dooj.
Happy Bhai Dooj. Wherever this year has taken you, you are still the first person I'd call.
You were my first friend and my first argument. Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai.
Happy Bhai Dooj to the brother who protected me from everyone except himself.
May this year give back everything you have given everyone else. Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai.
Happy Bhai Dooj, bhaiya. Long life, good health, and a little more patience with Mummy's calls.
Same house, same fights, same side when it mattered. Happy Bhai Dooj.
For your sister
Happy Bhai Dooj, didi. One tilak a year, and you've been looking out for me every day in between.
Happy Bhai Dooj to my sister, who still knows exactly what I'm going to say before I say it.
You did the tilak, I'll do the gift — and the dishes, just this once. Happy Bhai Dooj.
Happy Bhai Dooj. Thank you for every secret you kept, and every one you didn't need to.
Happy Bhai Dooj, didi. Whatever you prayed for me, I'd like the same for you, twice.
Happy Bhai Dooj to the little sister who grew up and now gives better advice than I do.
My sister, my oldest ally, my first critic. Happy Bhai Dooj.
Happy Bhai Dooj. You were right about most things. Please don't screenshot this.
Short ones, for WhatsApp and status
Happy Bhai Dooj to my favourite sibling. The competition was small.
Tilak on, sweets out, gift pending. Happy Bhai Dooj.
Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai. Always on your side.
Happy Bhai Dooj, didi. Thank you for everything.
One festival, one sibling, one long list of memories. Happy Bhai Dooj.
Happy Bhai Dooj — the last day of Diwali, and my favourite one.
Same blood, same jokes, same scoldings from Mummy. Happy Bhai Dooj.
To the person who has been there since day one: happy Bhai Dooj.
Funny, for the sibling who'd roll their eyes at anything sincere
Happy Bhai Dooj! The tilak is free. The sweets are free. The gift, unfortunately for you, is not optional.
Happy Bhai Dooj to the brother who still owes me from last Raksha Bandhan.
Happy Bhai Dooj. I've done the tilak; you do the transfer. UPI works.
Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai. I prayed for your long life, so please stop eating like that.
Happy Bhai Dooj to my sister, the only person allowed to tell me I'm wrong in front of other people.
Bhai Dooj reminder: I am still the reason you got away with half of what you did in school.
When you can't be there for the tilak
Bhai Dooj is the day people most want to be in the same room — the tilak needs a forehead, and the sweets need a plate. When the ticket was too much or the leave never came through, two things carry most of it.
Be on a video call at the tilak hour. The afternoon, their time. Do the tilak on the screen and laugh about it; it is still the ritual, and you will both remember it.
Send something that arrives that morning, not a forward that lands with forty others. A line from below is enough; something they open is better.
Happy Bhai Dooj from too many kilometres away. Consider this a tilak on the screen.
I can't do the tilak this year, so here's the prayer without the roli: long life, and come home soon.
Happy Bhai Dooj, bhai. Different cities, same family group chat, same sister who misses you.
Happy Bhai Dooj, didi. I'll be on the video call at tilak time — keep the plate ready and the camera steady.
The distance changed the address, not the promise. Happy Bhai Dooj.
Happy Bhai Dooj. Next year, in person. This year, everything I'd have said at the door.

Something to send, not just say
If your brother or sister is in another city this year, a link they open lands better than a line they read. This site makes two things for Diwali, both free and opened in a browser with no app: a photo album of the years you grew up in, with a caption under each photo, turned page by page — and nested surprise boxes, five wrapped boxes one inside the next, with your letter at the bottom.
For the album, find one old photo for every year you can — the scooter, the school play, the wedding where you both misbehaved. Make one; it takes about ten minutes with the photos ready.
Sending Diwali wishes as well? There are fifty for family and friends, and forty for colleagues and clients.
Questions people ask
When is Bhai Dooj in 2026?
Wednesday, 11 November 2026 — three days after the main Diwali night on Sunday, 8 November 2026, and the last day of the festival. It follows the lunar calendar, so a few local panchangs can place it a day differently; if your family's does, go by theirs.
What time is the Bhai Dooj tilak?
In the afternoon. The tilak is done in the afternoon window, called aparahna, while the lunar day of Bhai Dooj lasts. The exact minutes change from city to city, so your local panchang is the one to check — and if you can't be there, a video call at that hour is the next best thing.
What does a brother give on Bhai Dooj?
Traditionally the gift goes from brother to sister: money in an envelope, sweets, clothes, something chosen for her. The sister gives the tilak, the aarti and usually the meal. If you're in different cities this year, words that are actually about the two of you travel better than an envelope — there are some ideas in Diwali gift ideas beyond mithai and dry fruit.
